UV and visible spectrum detectors, light sources passing through the sample contained in the flow cell, photodiodes, and high-speed samplers measure the light intensity output from the flow cell. The absorbance of the sample can then be calculated based on the Lambert-Beer law where concentration and optical path length are constant.
The UV-visible detector consists of two light sources, a deuterium lamp with a wavelength range from 190 nm to 422 nm, and a tungsten lamp ranging from 422 nm to 800 nm. Ricoh UV-Vis detectors feature a unique electrical and mechanical design that enables low noise, high sensitivity and easy-to-maintain flow cells.
